Prep Your Air Conditioner for Summer

Now is a good time to start thinking about your air conditioner and condensing unit. Be prepared before you actually need it to keep comfortable when hot temperatures hit!

How well did the unit survive the winter?  Is it still level?  If not it should be.  A unit that is not level may cause inadvertent damage to the compressor.

Make sure there is no damage to the unit and the areas surrounding it are free of debris.  This includes making sure the cooling or radiator fins are clean and clear from debris.  If they are not, the unit is most likely not performing at its best and you may have to have it serviced or replaced sooner than necessary.

The following tips include a link to a maintenance guide:

7 Tips for Maintaining Your AC Unit

1) Change your filter.

2) Keep your coils clean.

3) Keep surrounding shrubbery trimmed.

4) Ensure your dryer vent is not angled toward your AC unit.

5) Adjust your thermostat.

6) Check your ductwork and seal open spaces.

7) Schedule an annual tune-up with an HVAC professional.

It's a good idea to make sure that your home's air conditioner gets the attention it needs so that you can make sure that it continues to give you years of service.
